A saying that you might have perhaps heard a great deal operational, in sports, and human performance generally is governing the controllable. What does that basically mean? I wanted to take this concept of controlling the controllable, which can be actually fantastic advice incidentally, and take it out from the realm of as a cliché and to the whole world of something which we could actually do.
In our workshops we'll use something referred to as the CIA Model to help you students gain understanding of this concept and reduce stress in their own individual lives. It's pretty clear to see this model so here's the short form.
CIA represents Control Influence Accept. All with the circumstances and situations we find inside ourselves will fall into one of these three categories. I am going to discuss them in reverse order.
There is an enormous quantity of things within our world that individuals must accept. Weather, traffic patterns, scores and connection between games that individuals're not actually playing in. One in the best things that individuals can do for your own comfort is when there's a thing that we must accept, is actually in order to accept it not waste any injury attempting to change it.
The second category are things that people influence. The two big issues that get into this will be the immediate environment, your car or truck, work, your own home, and folks which you cope with. Listen, we don't have total control over our kids, our colleagues, etc, but perform have influence over them, and one in the best issues that you're able to do on your own growth is always that in circumstances in which you have influence to really exercise that influence will dramatically supercharge your self-esteem.
Now we arrive at the category of things we are able to control. We're here to speak about controlling the controllable. Well, guess what happens, folks? I've found there's really only 1 thing one of many things that we can control. It's your decisions.
That's right, your decisions about your health will be the only thing that people actually have direct treating. When you realize this, it will become kind of confronting and kind of liberating all as well. What do you do using this information, the only thing that I have total control over would be the decisions that I make?
Stop attempting to control stuff that you haven't any treating. Amazing if you ask me just how much energy people waste trying to control items that they maybe have influence over, here however in many cases should just accept. I'll also say that when it comes to issues that you've got zero influence over, I wouldn't spend much time talking or complaining about them. It's simply a drain in your energy. Are you catching yourself trying to control items that you should just accept? Notice that, and I would change your mind on that.
When you realize that this only thing you have total control over is the decisions, assume responsibilty to the decision-making process. I'm not saying to blame yourself when things turn out poorly. I am saying it will take responsibility for your decision that you make. That's when you begin manipulating the controllables and seeing the results which you really are interested in.
I don't play a whole lot of poker, but one thing that I often hear is the fact that winning at cards, specifically poker, has a small amount about they which you are dealt, and it includes a huge amount regarding how you make decisions and play them that you're dealt. Same thing goes for your daily life. Life truly is 10 percent how are you affected to us and 90 percent how you react.
I hope which you have enjoyed learning about governing the controllables.
